Home Improvement

The new year has been busy and I've tackled a few projects that I had I've had in the back of my mind for a while. Our two kitchen chairs have been dingy-looking for some time so, this month, I reupholstered them. I borrowed a staple gun and replaced the foam, batting and fabric. I treated the fabric with a stain protector and picked a darker, more forgiving, cranberry color so hopefully they'll last a while.

The second project on my list was a "skirt" for the bottom shelf of my baker's rack. Closed storage is limited for me and I'm occasionally puzzled about how to hide some of my kid paraphernalia. I keep diapers, wipes and other changing items on the bottom shelf of the rack, along with the kids shoes and rainboots. Even though I have cute baskets to keep it all organized, the overall effect wasn't pretty. Here's how it turned out with the skirt. It opens in the middle so that it is easy to access things on the shelf.

I also made a little skirt for Abby out of some fabric that I've had just kicking around. It was really easy and good practice for when I find some amazing fabric. My friend, Sarah, posted pictures of the skirts she made on her blog and they were so cute that they sold me on the idea.
